RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- beyond the bulls and barrel racers, there is another intense competition going on this week at the Reno Rodeo: The Western States Drill Team Competition.
13 teams from all over the west coast will go head to head in the Drill Team Competition Friday, June 15, at the Reno Livestock Events Center Indoor Arena. The event runs from 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m..
Junior: All riders under 18 years of age as of January 1, 2012.
Senior: The majority of riders must be over 18 years of age as of January 1, 2012.
Mixed: Riders of all ages (or teams of 8 - 10 all junior or all senior riders). Eight (8) rider minimum. The Mixed Division is meant for smaller teams. Larger teams must enter in their proper division.
Clarification: In ANY division in this competition, matched horses (colors) and saddles are NOT required. The divisions reflect age groups only.
Drill Team Competition Awards:
First Place, all divisions: $1,000.00
Second Place, all divisions: $ 500.00
Third Place, all divisions: $ 250.00
The winner shall be determined by adding together the scores of the three judges and dividing by three. The team with the highest average is to be declared the winner, next highest average, second, and the next highest average, third.
All places first, second and third are final at the time of the awards. Due to the pressing time schedule, any contested scores and/or complaints will be assessed and will be used to improve next year’s competition. However, the results of this competition are FINAL!
