Nashville, TN ( & KRNV) -- The Aces were walked-off in Nashville for the second consecutive night and suffered their third straight loss in a 2-1 setback.

The Sounds’ Jeremy Hermida delivered the game-winner with a one-out, RBI-single off Joe Paterson in the bottom of the ninth.

The two starters, Ariel Pena for Nashville, and Zeke Spruill for Reno, dazzled early. Pena’s perfect game was broken up when he issued a two-out walk in the sixth inning. Spruill set down the minimum through five innings.

The Sounds finally got to Spruill in the sixth inning when Pete Orr and Robinson Diaz started the frame with back-to-back singles. After a failed sacrifice attempt, lead-off hitter Jeff Bianchi sent a RBI single to left to give Nashville a 1-0 lead.

In return, the Aces hampered Pena in the seventh. Still working on a no-hitter, the right-hander issued a lead-off walk to Roger Kieschnick. The no-hit bid ended shortly after as Alfredo Marte lined a base hit to left. After two pop-outs, Danny Dorn came through with a single to left, scoring Kieschnick to even the game at 1-1.

Spruill returned to the mound and worked a quick 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh. The Aces put two on with nobody out in the eighth, and then had runners at second and third with one out after Nick Ahmed sacrifice bunt. However, they failed to score as lefty Brent Leach struck out Kieschnick, and right-hander Dustin Molleken came on and struck out Marte to end the threat.

Eury De La Rosa got the Aces back to the plate in a hurry after he worked a quick bottom of the eighth. The ninth started with a Mike Jacobs walk. He moved to second on a one-out single by Dorn. Molleken bounced back to strike out Blake Lalli for the second out of the inning. Mike Freeman hit the first pitch he saw up the middle for a base hit, but Jacobs was thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw by Kevin Mattison.

Kevin Munson climbed the hill for the bottom of the ninth and retired Hector Gomez to start the inning. Elian Herrera gave the Sounds a base runner with a bunt single. Joe Paterson relieved Munson and promptly allowed a base hit to Hunter Morris, putting Herrera at third. It brought up Hermida who lined the first pitch he saw from Paterson up the middle for the game-winner.

Both starters took a no-decision in game two of the series. Game three features the staff aces as right-hander Mike Bolsinger (5-1, 2.74) gets the ball for Reno against right-hander Jimmy Nelson (7-1, 1.51) for Nashville. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PST.
