ELY, Nev. (AP) — Owners of The Ely Times say managing editor Lukas Eggen has resigned his position at the northeast Nevada newspaper to become the sports editor of a paper in Oregon.

Eggen's last day at the Times was Friday. He worked there for nearly two years, beginning as a reporter fresh out of the University of Nevada, Reno in February 2011.

Kirk Kern, operating officer of Battle Born Media, says Eggen did a good job and they will miss him. He's going to the Polk County Itemizer-Observer in Dallas, Oregon.

Kern says they are hiring a new reporter to replace him. He's Garrett Estrada, a UNLV graduate with a degree in journalism and media studies who also studied at UNR.
