RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Five members of the University of Nevada golf programs have qualified for the United States Public Links Championships, which will be played next week, according to a University of Nevada press release.

Three members of the women’s program won qualifying spots for the women’s side of the Public Links, which takes place beginning Tuesday at the Home Course in Dupont, Wash.

Junior Carly Simpson carded a 73 at a qualifier in Mira Loma, Calif., last month to lay claim to one of the 16 spots to come from that location. Junior Caryn Khoo shot a 75 at a qualifier in Stockton, Calif. to claim a spot as well. Sophomore Jordan Keyser and Nikki Prichard each shot 76 at that same location and were alternates at the time. But Keyser has now received a spot and will play in the championship.

On the men’s side, Josh Baskins shot a 149 over 36 holes at Thunder Canyon last month to win a qualifying event by two strokes. Baskins topped Fallon's Matt Vanderbeek by two strokes with the Wolf Pack's Derek Ream a shot back of Vanderbeek. With his third place finish, Ream is the second alternate. Baskins recently completed his senior season at Nevada and will assist the team in a coaching capacity this year.

Incoming freshman Corey Eddings is also headed to the championship as the Roseville, Calif., native shot a 138 over two rounds last month at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento claim one of three spots from that location.

The men’s Public Links Championship is at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas and will also begin on Tuesday.

The Nevada program has had its share of history with the Publinx event. Last year, Wolf Pack men’s coach Jacob Wilner won the local qualifying, also at Thunder Canyon in Washoe Valley, and played in the championship in Virginia.

In 2006, the Wolf Pack's Casey Watabu won the championship, joining the likes of Brandt Snedeker, Ryan Moore and Hunter Haas as recent Publinx champions.
