Colorado Springs, CO -- Nevada first baseman Kewby Meyer and Fresno State left-hander Tyler Linehan have earned Mountain West Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for games played from March 11-17, 2013. It is the first MW recognition for Meyer and Linehan.
Meyer, a sophomore from Waipahu, Hawaii, hit .400 (6-of-15) for the week as the Wolf Pack went 3-1, including a 2-1 series win against Air Force to start MW play. Meyer started the week with a 2-of-4 performance in an 11-10 road win at UC Davis. He scored two runs, drove in two runs and was walked once. In Nevada’s 3-2 win over Air Force in its first-ever MW Conference game, Meyer hit a sacrifice fly to get the Wolf Pack’s first run across the plate in the first inning. He hit 3-of 4, including two doubles, with a run scored and two RBI in Saturday’s 6-1 win over the Falcons. In Sunday’s 7-3 loss to the Academy, Meyer was 1-of-5 from the plate.
For the week, Meyer, a three-hole hitter, scored three runs, batted in five runs and hit two doubles. He was walked twice. Defensively, Meyer recorded 32 putouts and two assists from his first base position.
Linehan, a junior from Sacramento, Calif., pitched a complete game shutout to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 win on Friday over San Diego State for Fresno State’s first-ever MW victory. It was Linehan’s first start of the season. He struck out seven batters while allowing eight hits and two walks over the nine innings pitched.
