RENO, Nev. (AP) — A motorcyclist was seriously injured when he collided with a hay bale that had fallen off a truck on U.S. 395 north of Reno.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday near the Lemmon Drive interchange.
Troopers say three bales of hay fell off a flat-bed truck driven by 33-year-old David Atherton of Reno.
Atherton told officers he parked along the shoulder and went to retrieve the bales when he saw a motorcycle and rider sliding on the asphalt.
The patrol says 50-year-old Brian Taylor of Reno was unable to avoid at least one of the hay bales. He was thrown off the bike and slid more than 200 feet on the roadway.
Taylor was flown to a Reno hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.
