Reno, NV (MyNews4.com) -- The Nevada softball team extended it’s winning streak to seven in a row with two more wins in the Wolf Pack Classic on a gorgeous day at Hixson Park on Saturday.
In the Wolf Pack’s first game of the day, Nevada won a tight matchup over UC Davis, 4-3. In the second game, the Wolf Pack ripped 14 hits to run-rule North Dakota 9-1 in six innings. Nevada is now 18-9 overall and has run-rule wins in five of its last nine games.
The tournament wraps up Sunday with UC Davis and North Dakota facing off at 10 a.m. and Nevada playing UC Davis at 12:30 p.m.
The win streak is Nevada’s longest since an eight-game streak last season.
Against Davis, Nevada scored twice in the second inning as Danielle Wiltz and Megan Sweet each came through with RBI singles to stake Megan Dortch to a 2-0 lead.
The Aggies came back with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie things up. Nevada re-took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Sara Parsons drew a bases-loaded walk with nobody out to go up 3-2. But Nevada left them loaded without scoring anything further and a one-run game went to the sixth.
UC Davis pulled even again in the sixth and was looking for more when Erin Jones turned a beautiful double play, snagging a line drive and beating the runner on first back to the bag.
In the bottom of the inning, Nevada took the lead for good. With Sweet on first, Erin Jones doubled to the gap and scored Sweet all the way from first.
Dortch allowed runners on the corners in the seventh but ended the game with her ninth strikeout to get the win and move her record to 7-3 on the year. She went the distance, giving up five hits and all three runs while walking two and hitting a batter.
Against North Dakota, Jones went 3-for-4 and was a home run short of the cycle while Amanda Weis and Jasmine Jenkins each homered as Nevada had seven extra-base hits in the game.
That was more than enough offense for Karlyn Jones, who struck out seven with no walks while yielding just one run on seven hits.
In the first game of the day, UC Davis beat North Dakota 9-2.
