RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Three members of the University of Nevada women’s golf team have been named All-American Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

Junior Bethany Wurster and sophomores Carly Simpson and Caryn Khoo earned the prestigious honor as the criteria for the award is among the most stringent in college athletes. In order to qualify, golfers must earn a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.5

Wurster is majoring in anthropology while Simpson is majoring in finance and Khoo is an art major.

Earlier this week the trio joined three of their teammates on the Academic All-Mountain West team as Nevada women’s golf had six representatives this year. That was tied for the most amongst Mountain West schools. Senior Joyce Chong, junior Nikki Prichard and freshman Jordan Keyser also were named to the team.

On Wednesday, the trio joined teammates Tess Jones and Brittany Whatley on the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Team, which also requires a 3.5 GPA.

“I am thrilled with the achievements of our team in the classroom this year and proud of their work ethic and accomplishments,” coach Kathleen Takaishi said.
