Reno, NV (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo began his Major-League rehab assignment with a bang when he launched a grand slam for the Aces in a 14-8 win over Las Vegas on Monday night.

Trevor Cahill was the beneficiary of the run support as Reno plated ten runs in the third inning. Before the big third, the Aces jumped on the board in the first with a pair of homers off 51s starter Giancarlo Alvarado.

Danny Dorn, batting second in the order, drilled the first pitch he saw off the batter’s eye for his seventh home run of the year to give Reno a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Andy Marte belted a solo homer to left-center, his team-leading 13th of the year.

Dorn finished the night 4-for-5 with four runs scored and finished a triple shy of the cycle. He’s the first Aces player to have back-to-back four hits games this year. Marte ended 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and missed the cycle by a double.

Mike Freeman started the third inning with a walk off Alvarado. Dorn followed with a single to put runners at the corners with nobody out. The first run of the inning came home when Alvarado uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Freeman to make it 3-0.

Another wild pitch put Dorn at third, who scored a moment later when Marte lined a base hit to center. Blake Lalli singled and Argenis Diaz doubled to up the Aces lead to 5-0.

Ronny Cedeno, Cahill and Freeman collected consecutive RBI-singles to give Reno an 8-0 lead. Dorn followed with a single of his own to load the bases for Trumbo.

Playing in his first game in an Aces uniform, Trumbo unloaded on a 0-1 pitch from Alvarado and sent it over the batter’s eye in straightaway center-field for a grand slam and 12-0 Aces lead. It’s the second grand slam of the season for the Aces and also the second time they’ve scored ten runs in one inning.

Cahill worked 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, his second straight start with no runs allowed. The right-hander improved to 2-1 with the Aces. Alvarado was charged with 12 runs and the loss.

Game two of the four-game series is set for Tuesday at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander Charles Brewer (3-6, 7.05) starts for Reno against Las Vegas right-hander Logan Verrett (6-2, 4.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
