Amputation
One of the most traumatic injuries a person can sustain is amputation, or the accidental loss of a body part such as a finger, toe, arm, or leg. A complete amputation occurs when the extremity is totally severed from your body.
Automobile accident injuries
Injuries sustained in automobile accidents can vary from minor bumps and bruises to broken bones, and in some cases, amputation. In case of serious injury, emergency treatment may be needed immediately, especially if there's a broken bone, head trauma, or internal bleeding.
Head injuries
Head injuries kill and disable more people under the age of 50 than any other type of neurological damage, and are the second leading cause of death in men under age 35.
Knee and shoulder injuries
Knee and shoulder joints are recipients of the greatest amounts of stress placed upon any joints in your body, particularly in sports. Your knee gains most of its stability through ligaments and tendons, which connect bone to bone and muscle to bone.
Occupational rehabilitation
Occupational rehabilitation is a managed process aimed at helping injured or ill workers return to suitable employment with the fullest physical, mental, social, vocational, and economic usefulness possible.
Pain management
Uncontrolled pain can be both devastating and disabling. Generally speaking, pain is your body's alarm system that tells you something is wrong. Basically, there are two types of pain: acute and chronic.
Physical medicine and rehabilitation
The goal of physical medicine and rehabilitation, or physiatry (fizz-ee-AT-tree), is to assist disabled patients in achieving their maximum physical, psychosocial, and vocational potential.
Physical therapy
Physical therapy is a healthcare profession that enables therapists to evaluate and treat people with musculoskeletal disorders, neurological dysfunctions, and other types of disease, injury, or illness.
Soft tissue injuries
Soft tissue injuries account for about 95 percent of all sports injuries and affect the joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles in your limbs. Bruises, sprains, strains, and dislocations are all considered soft tissue injuries.
Spinal cord rehabilitation
Unfortunately, about 10,000 people are paralyzed each year because of spinal cord injuries. Your spinal cord and brain comprise your central nervous system, and when damaged by trauma, tumor, infection, or interruption of its blood supply, damage to the central nervous system can be permanent.
Sports injuries
More than 10 million sports injuries occur each year. In many cases, sports injuries can be prevented with proper conditioning and training, wearing appropriate protective gear, and using proper equipment.
Stroke and neurological rehabilitation
Few people are prepared for such a sudden, and often catastrophic event like a stroke. When a stroke occurs, some brain cells may only be temporarily damaged, not killed, and may resume functioning.
