Depending on the type of pool you choose to install, you may have a lot of decking or a little. Decking is the surface area surrounding the pool, filling the expansion joint to the coping. Materials for decking can vary greatly from cedar, flagstone, slate, ceramic, porcelain to nearly any porous material. 'textured decking' is a porous material installed over concrete. The design of your decking adds a great deal of value to your pool, but, be cautious when choosing a color, as dye lots can vary and inlaid designs can be mis-installed. As you will be walking on the decking, you should consider traction and heat maintaining properties of your deck material to provide the most comfort. Your decking will be subject, not only to the chemicals in your pool, but also to the weather: good decking should be frost and acid proof. Investigate if there are any warranties from the manufacturer or installer to protect you from future loss. Your local pool contractor can provide additional information on decking.
