Hopefully the parents will be able to shed some light on the situation. Being arrested for a failed breath test means nothing more than, he did not blow hard enuf? Displayed signs of intoxication means nothing more than the arresting officer is also just as easily confusing these signs with multiple medical situations the teen could be just as easily displaying that are not in the purview of the arresting officer's capabilities to handle. Good thing the teen was transported to the hospital, then remanded to the arresting officer, then will have the ability to have a fair trial. I notice there exists no inference of the vehicle being stolen or taken without the consent of the parent. Huh, wonder why>much alleged in the situation. The child could have used awful judgement, could equally have a idiopathic medical condition not previously diagnosed that has now come to the fore! I do not see as much in error with news reporting, as I do with our current fault-finding militaristic police state. I am not a "spare the rod, spoil the child..." type of person, believing "...it takes a village..." to keep all people healthy and safe. I do believe in social justice but, believe problems are far more complex than simply a detention center will ease, knowing the juvie centers have a long history of training criminal activity into recidivism rather than being a rehabilitation center for faulty thinking and horrendous mistakes, if that was truly the case. If not, and a medical situation, bless this child for shedding light where it needs to be and hopefully he will be blessed with a good attorney!

Two gripes about your story. First, "arrested for DUI." Please your style book. "To avoid any suggestion that someone is being judged before a trial, do not use a phrase such as 'arrested for....' Instead, use 'arrested on a charge of...'" Second, the now-widespread practice of the media adopting coptalk in their news stories. Stop it. The driver did not "allow" his vehicle to drift. If in an impaired state, where is the allowance? The only this allegedly drunk kid allowed was extremely bad judgment.
