QUINCY, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A 20-year-old from Los Angeles has drowned in Antelope Lake.
Plumas County Sheriff's Office says Jared Lee Freeman had recently moved to Susanville to take classes at Lassen College. On Sunday August 18, at around 3pm, the Plumas Co. Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a call from USFS reporting a possible drowning victim at the Lunker Landing Day Use area at Antelope Lake with CPR in progress.
Resuscitation efforts failed after several minutes of CPR, and the 20 year old male subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
Plumas County Sheriff's Office says Freeman entered the water alone and swam out approximately 20 to 30 feet and began to yell for help.
Two of the victim’s friends jumped into the water to assist Freeman. Once they swam up to Freeman, they believed he was fine and returned to shore. Freeman began to yell again for help and slipped beneath the surface of the water. PCSO says then about 10 subjects jumped into the water to assist Freeman and brought him to shore.
At this time, it does not appear that alcohol or drugs played a role in the drowning. The case is currently under investigation by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Department.
