RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras has confirmed a Kindergarten student attending Peavine Elementary brought an inoperable BB gun pistol to school yesterday.

The 6-year-old boy made a verbal threat to another child, but did not use the BB gun in a threatening manner. The gun appears to have been brought from home, along with several other toys. No criminal charges have been filed and the matter is still under investigation.

The incident will be handled by the school administration, but Chief Mieras asks parents to be aware of what their children are bringing to school and asks the public to notify authorities immediately if a similar matter occurs.

Are you "adults" EVER going to stop this idiotic over-reaction about what kids bring to school? How many instances of kids being kicked out of school for bringing a toy gun to school,or chewing a part of their LUNCH into the shape of a gun will it take for you to realize how insane you are being? Why didn't this become a problem when I was a kid? All through High School a good 60-70% of the vehicles in our High School parking lots had rifles, shotguns and pistols in them,we often hunted before and after school, and guess how many of the gun owners shot up a school, killed a teacher or shot themselves-NONE. What have you DONE to your kids that makes them decide to bring loaded guns to school,or to commit suicide just because of a some schoolyard bullying? If you think it benefits your kids to stop keeping score at their ballgames so "nobody's feelings get hurt",you're totally wrong. Kids have to learn that life is hard, and sometimes isn't fair, that others can be mean, and that they can,and will, get hurt, but they have to recover, cope, and find ways to use the lessons of failures, then put those failures behind them. Those of you who have worked so hard to "insulate" your kids from everything bad in life are doing far more damage to the kids than ANYTHING life can do to them. Not surprising though, most of you were probably raised with that same mush-minded thinking. PLEASE tell your School officials to GET A GRIP ON THEIR HYSTERIA!
