GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- More than 2,000 people are without power after a commercial cattle truck hit a power line on Tuesday.
According to NV Energy, the incident happened at the corner of Mottsville Lane and Highway 88 around 3:45 p.m. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the commercial cattle truck failed to yield to a stoplight on Highway 88, striking a red SUV; in turn, this caused the truck to roll over, knocking out the power line. The cattle truck was carrying at least 50 dairy cattle and NHP officers are reporting 12 to 15 cattle are dead at this time. The cattle are currently being extricated from the scene.
One person was transported via Careflight to Renown their condition is unknown.
Officials estimate the road will reopen in approximately 2 hours.
NV Energy is on the scene to repair the damage, but there is no estimate when power has been restored.
