Question:

Amber Bradley wrote in asking why aren't there any lights on Highland Ranch Parkway? Amber uses that road on a regular basis and she says at night, it gets dangerous.

Answer:

Highland Ranch Parkway runs from Pyramid Highway over to Sun Valley. The road is in unincorporated Washoe County, and like many county roads, it is not lit.

I checked with County Commissioner Bonnie Weber, because this road is in District 5. Weber confirmed there are no street lights on Highland Ranch. She says people who live in county areas enjoy dark skies, and no curbs and gutters.  Lighting, sidewalks and curbs are typical in city neighborhoods where residents pay higher taxes for those services.

Weber says she doesn't think there is much hope for street lights on Highland Ranch in the near future.

Thanks to Amber for sending in that question. Feel free to contact Commissioner Weber directly, if you like to find out more.

theres a proposal to run a hwy from disc drive through to 395 to alleviate the mess at McCarran and Pyramid. will it be a lit highway? Maybe the proposal should include lights?

We don't have any street lighting on Frans Ct either. But I prefer that for the night skies and it keeps graffiti at bay. (Being a cul-de-sac helps too as we know who does and does not belong here) I've also seen a snow plow up here a few times this year, try that in the cities of Reno and Sparks .

They haven't been on Chocolate Dr in Sun Valley yet. We have an unfinished bumpy road that is left that way on purpose. Not only because it's not part of the county maintained roads it's kept that way because we don't want the idiots up here tagging every piece of flat-sided vehicle that's owned by our neighbors.
