A viewer has asked that we follow up on a story we covered recently about a crash out in rural Nevada.
Bruce Carl wrote in asking if charges have been filed in the accident that occurred on I-80 near Beowawe, resulting in the deaths of two construction workers ?
That was one of the worst work zone crashes we've ever seen in northern Nevada according to Scott Magruder with NDOT.
Two subcontractors who were working on an NDOT project were killed back in November on I-80 about halfway between Battle Mountain and Elko. Two other workers were injured in the crash.
The NHP says 69 year old Candace Gittins failed to slow down and slammed into a parked construction truck on that stretch of road. Gittins was not injured.
I checked with the NHP for an update on this case. Trooper Jim Stewart out in Elko says the investigation is continuing. And he told me charges are pending in the case though he would not give a timeline.
The NHP is wrapping up its investigation and will submit its case to the district attorney. That will be the next step and we'll let you know when that happens.
