From the Ask Joe file, we have a follow-up to a question about a construction project that is generating a lot of curiosity.
Rick McChesney had written in asking about a giant hole crews are digging next to highways 395 and 50 in Carson City. He thinks it looks like a giant lake.
News 4 has a picture of that project, so Joe thought it was worth following up on. As he mentioned earlier in the week, it is a flood basin that is being built as part of the Carson Bypass project.
The retention basin will be able to hold 38 million gallons of water. It will collect run-off coming out of the mountains, and that water will eventually be funneled into the Carson River.
The flood basin and the rest of this phase of the project should be finished sometime in July.
