From the Ask Joe file, one of our viewers has a question about a big development project for this area: the Apple project.
Brenda Boone wrote asking what's the status of the apple campus? And she's wondering when we'll start to see employment opportunities out there.
The Apple Data Center turned on a few months ago, in December, according to the company.
Joe also checked with Don Jepson with Washoe County's Building Department on Tuesday. The Apple facility is moving forward. Jepson said the company has filed for permits through Washoe County to add several more buildings out at the Reno Technology Park east of Sparks, which will house many of the companies' online staff including iTunes. Jepson told me today some of those permits have been approved, while the others are being reviewed.
The new buildings will total about 103,000 square feet. This will be phase three of the data center.
Apple officials have predicted the project will create about 100 construction jobs and up to 400 jobs overall. Apple is expected to generate a billion dollars for our economy over the next decade.
