From the Ask Joe file, Virginia Lake is a popular walking and jogging spot, especially with our warmer weather. Viewer Andy Flagg wrote in saying he enjoys his morning and evening walks around Virginia Lake. But he says lately, he has noticed the fountain is not working. Andy wants to know when was the last time it was working?
Joe checked with Jeff Mann, the City's Parks Manager about this. He found that one of the Virginia Lake fountains is still working, but two of them are broken and the situation is getting expensive.
Mann said the city spent $1,700 last year to fix the fountains, and they lasted only a couple of months. Two years prior, they spent $7,000 to completely rebuild them, and they lasted less than one year.
The city is working on an overall circulation plan for the lake, and they are looking at other ways to provide water circulation because the fountains have been so unreliable.
Joe asked Mann if the manufacturer is on the hook for any of the costs. He said the warranty covers replacement parts, but not labor or shipping. We'll keep you posted when the city is able to come up with another method to provide proper circulation in Virginia Lake.
