Gary Schenauer , a longtime viewer out in Fernley wrote in asking if is true the military plane that crashed in Afghanistan last week stopped over at the Reno-Tahoe Airport recently ?
That was a tragic crash involving a Boeing B744 cargo jet that appeared to stall shortly after take-off in Afghanistan. Seven crew members died in the crash. None were from this area.
I checked with Reno-Tahoe Airport spokesperson Heidi Jared.
She confirmed that plane was in Reno about two weeks ago on a military charter flight. But she could not provide any other details , and neither could military officials in Reno.
Jared says a charter flight could mean it was flying troops in for training or cargo, just about anything. The military doesn't usually tell the airport what its doing when it comes and goes.
Gary, our viewer says the plane spent several days parked here before leaving and heading to Travis Air Force Base outside of Sacramento.
All we know is that it met with tragedy in Afghanistan. There is no word yet on what caused the crash, again it happened just days after the plane had passed through Reno.
