Question:
Ken Voge wrote in asking what is happening with the Ormsby House in Carson City ?  He says it's been fenced off and boarded up for as long as he can remember, and he's curious what's going on there.

Answer:
Ken the Ormsby House has been a big mystery ever since it closed 13 years ago.   I called Carson City, they told me to call the contractor .  I called the contractor, Metcalf Builders and they told me to call the owner, Don Lehr.   I called Mr. Lehr but I did not get any response.

So back to the city. Planning director Lee Plemel was able to tell me crews are currently doing some work on the interior of the building.
They have a permit which expires in april of 2015.

The permit includes full interior improvements for the casino, buffet and convention space on the first and second floors, and 110 hotel rooms on floors 3-10.  So even though things look quiet on the outside, there is work going on inside the property.  It's been more than a decade since the Ormsby House was open but it is still a fixture in Carson City and I know a lot of people look forward to the day when it re-opens.
