Question:
From the Ask Joe File one of our viewers has a question about an inmate work crew that gave students and parents a scare this week.
Michelle wrote in asking why a Washoe County  inmate work crew was allowed to be working so close to Roland Melton Elementary School on Wednesday, September 11 th ?

Answer:
Michelle, it sounds like this was an oversight that has now been corrected.  The inmates, who are all low level offenders by the way, were doing some work at a sports complex and park near Roland Melton. Michelle even sent in a photo showing the group in their striped jumpsuits at work.
I talked to Bob Harmon with the sheriff's office. He says the work crews started at 7:30 in the morning over at the park and when a parent approached them with concerns they wrapped up their work and moved on.
I also spoke with the principal today, Mary Slagle. She says she was pretty alarmed to see the work crew and so were the students.  But she says she's been assured the work crews won't be out so close to the school again.

I agree with Larry. Today's children are screwed up because their parents shelter them too much. PLUS kids aren't disciplined like they were 50 years ago anyway. Nowadays you get reported to child services if you put your kid over your knee or swatting them on the butt in public if they misbehave. Classroom discipline with the wooden paddle on the butt in front of the classroom. I didn't turn out to be a serial killer or an abusive parent. Today's children are a product of today's society. Ewww...!! We can't have children seeing the striped suits. It'll damage their poor little brains. Get real.

Seriously? I see prison crews next to, at or across the street from schools in NW and N Reno all the time. This is nothing new, nor is it any concern to anyone.

This is exactly where they SHOULD work to set an example that if they screw up this is the penalty. This is most of the problem in this country today kids are sheltered and have no clue between right and wrong or the consequences.
