Carly Johnson wrote in saying she and her family went to the Golden Flower Restaurant on West Fifth street on Friday and it was closed. She says there was a notice from the county saying the restaurant had been shut down because of improper asbestos removal. She wants to know if its going to re-open ?
I went by today and the restaurant was back open.
I checked with Phil ulibarri at the Washoe County Health Department. He says they shut the restaurant down at around 4:00 on Friday because the owners had done some remodeling and did not get the proper asbestos permits before doing the work. There were about 20 customers inside at the time and everyone had to leave.
The owners had to hire a certified lab to come give it all the clear on saturday. They did that and the resaurant did re-open on Saturday. Ulibarri says the owners were fined $5,000 by the air quality division, but again the restaurant is safe and has been given the all-clear from the health district.
