RENO, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - UPDATE: Reno Police tell News 4 that this attempted assault could be related to a rape that occured a few days ago on January 12, 2012. According to police, the descriptions of the suspects in both cases is not exact but there are enough similarities to lead investigators to believe they might be connected.
UPDATE: Reno Police tell News 4 on Wednesday night a man tried to sexually assault a 20-year-old female University of Nevada, Reno student on the 1400 block of N. Virginia Street.
Authorities say the man knocked on the woman’s around 6:30 p.m. and asked her if he could use her phone.
The woman allowed him in and that’s when officers say the man pulled out a knife and told her to take her clothes off.
The 20-year-old defended herself and the struggle resulted in the man fleeing from the scene. Police say the woman received a small knife cut on her hand, but the suspect is still on the loose.
A UNR Campus text alert was sent to faculty, staff, and students just after 10 o'clock Wednesday night to warn them of the crime along with a brief description of the suspect.
UPDATED suspect description according to Lt. Mohammad Rafaqat with the Reno Police Department: the male suspect is between the ages of 21 and 30, between 5'4" and 5'5" tall, weighs 140 to 150 lbs., short buzz cut hair, possibly of Asian descent with a tattoo on his right wrist.
