INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife is being criticized for allegedly capturing and euthanizing a bear cub on Saturday near Incline Village.
Department Spokesperson Chris Healy says they did capture a yearling and tranquilize it. He says the cub should have weighed around 60 pounds, but instead weighed just over 20 pounds and was in poor health.
A viewer posted the photo associated with this story on Facebook. Healy could not confirm this was that same bear, but did say it would be a good assumption, given its size.
He says the bear did not survive capture but the department did not euthanize the animal.
Healy says they never planned on euthanizing the bear, and that they planned to bring the bear to a rehabilitation center.
