STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — Police say one person is in custody after suspects wanted for a bank robbery in Central California opened fire on police during a high-speed chase.

Stockton police Officer Joe Silva says at least two hostages were taken into custody during the pursuit Wednesday afternoon. The violence began when a Bank of the West branch was robbed.

Police say the suspects opened fire on the pursuing officers with a semiautomatic weapon while leading them on a chase through several highways.

Silva says that one of the hostages was shot during the pursuit and thrown out of the vehicle. That person's condition is not immediately known.

A second hostage was thrown from the vehicle when the pursuit came to an end in the middle of a street.

No officers were injured.

"says at least two hostages were taken into custody", the hostages were taken into custody, what about the gunmen/robbers? Were they let go? Typical lazy, computerized reporting!
