UPDATE: The Victim involved in this collision has been identified as 79-year-old Anastacia Redulla a Reno resident. On the evening of September 24, 2012 she was pronounced deceased at Renown as she succumbed to her injuries.

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A car hit a person crossing in the street in a motorized wheelchair last night around 5:15, according Reno Police.

The incident happened on the 1600 block of Silverada Boulevard. The victim was reportedly still lying in the street and a motorized wheelchair was said to be pinned underneath a vehicle.

The victim was located and immediately transported to Renown Regional Medical Center and is currently in ICU.

The Reno Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team responded and took over the investigation.

It appears that the person in the motorized wheelchair was traveling in the street at the time of the accident. Due to the time of day, environmental factors may be involved, police say.

The Reno Police Department would like to remind pedestrians to use caution when crossing Streets and ensure that drivers see you before entering a roadway. Drivers are reminded to use extra care when driving during times of sunrise and sunset.

5:15 is well before sunset; was the driver headed west? A flag on a long pole riding upright above the wheelchair is a useful feature. Sad story, but at least it wasn't one of those crazy unlicensed, no-helmet motobikes!!
