CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A Carson City couple is behind bars on multiple felony charges of sexual assault involving a child. The criminal complaint filed by Carson City Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger describes what the couple allegedly did.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's office said the details of this particular case are unusual. "Thankfully for our society, these are the few bizarre child cases," said Sheriff Ken Furlong. "This one just grabs your attention and goes what happened here, where did this one fall off the block because this is not how our society operates and this not how we raise our children. So the district attorney’s office is taking this charge, very, very seriously."
37-year-old Jessica Soto Delgado-Bracamontes and 27-year-old Mario Quevedo were charged Friday on three different counts. They include Sexual Assault against a Child under the Age of 16, Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault against a Child under the Age of 16, and Administering Drugs and Methamphetamine to Commit a Felony.
The criminal complaint describes how Soto and Quevedo allegedly used a turkey baster on the child. "The details in this particular case are a little bit more usual, but we certainly treat it just like any sexual assault case that we've charged," said Krueger.
Krueger also said the potential charges the defendants are facing include two Category B felony charges. Plus, the most serious potential charge for Sexually Assaulting a Child under the Age of 16. "The penalty set by the legislature for that is a life imprisonment with a minimum eligibility of parole after 25 years," said Krueger.
Furlong said before warrants were issued on the sexual assault investigation, Quevedo was arrested on July 1 for unrelated charges. Furlong said Quevado has an extensive history with the Sheriff’s Office. "Our officers are well acquainted with him, so he’s back with us again."
Krueger said the victim of the alleged crime is in protective custody, and the investigation is still ongoing. Both Soto and Quevedo are in custody on $100,000 bail each.
A temporary preliminary hearing has been set for 3:30 p.m. on July 30.
