CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Carson City Board of Supervisors is nearing a settlement with a woman whose dog was impounded and euthanized because she couldn't come up with enough money fast enough to save it.

The board has drafted a proposed settlement of $41,500 to consider on Thursday on the condition dog owner Jeraldine Archuleta, signs a waiver of all claims in the death of her shih tzu, Rollie.

The Nevada Appeal reports (http://tinyurl.com/lhgbdph ) Carson City Animal Services put the unlicensed dog down July 30, five days after it was impounded. Archuleta says she asked for more time to pay the $100.

The city also is being sued by the former animal services manager who says she was defamed and unfairly ousted from her job because of a public outrage over the incident.

Touche Seatrees, you got me on the gossip part. But there is no agenda, as my comments have no bearing on what the CC Board of Supervisors decides to do. This is merely comments, just like you are doing. But the whole thing is fishy, from the owner to the Animal Control. The owner is the one that chose to publicly speak out on her experience. How do you have a pet if you can't bail them out of doggy prison? You have to have money to feed them and take care of any unexpected vet bills, etc. Her, as you call it, poor decision, tells you that she is not the most responsible/honest person and is capable of "innovative solutions". I have no ill feelings if CC gives her money, although I do think $41k is excessive. Yes I have made poor decisions, but they were not illegal. So I respect your point of view and you need not keep calling me a twit (unless of course it makes you feel better)

A gossip is a person who spreads personal or sensational facts. Look it up. You wrote of something that happened 5 years ago. It's great that you have never made a poor decision. I hope she gets the money. You also stated that you were "puzzled", when clearly you had an agenda. That is why you are a twit.

You know things happen.money should NOT be the issue.why give this low life person a reward.im a big dog lover.there are these same dogs on craigs list looking for a home.if there's a WILL there is away.i feel for the dog,as i have 2..but to compensate this thief would be unjustified to say the least..

Dear Seatrees- A conviction is not gossip and is public information. BTW I do give to many charities, animal welfare being one of them. I guess you don't see the irony in this. The dog lost its life, AC employees lost their jobs and she gets a windfall. Hopefully she will give back and donate some money to help others in that same situation. I still don't think we have all the details of this story, because it doesn't make sense. You see my comments as arrogant and you are entitled to that opinion......now calling me a Twit, that is just mean ;)

To the one who wanted to know why she couldn't come up with $100.00-Really? I work 40-60 hours a week and I wouldn't be able to come up with an extra $100.00 at the drop of a hat. If you are so well off, maybe you should donate some of your money for people in the same situation. Stop spreading gossip and being so arrogant. Would you be pleased if someone started spreading your dirt publicly? You are a Twit.

Carson City Animal Control are useless. Pure and simple. They failed poorly to follow up on a felony animal abuse case I filled last year. Only because my puppy didn't die from my neighbor trying to poison it. She tried again this July and is going to be charged very soon this time. Carson City has law on the books, Kill someone's dog and you are to be hanged for it. Time for some old fashion justice.
