RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Get ready, Reno. The hit reality competition American Idol is coming to town.

Auditions for the show will be at Reno City Plaza on Saturday, where a piece of burning man art that says "believe" sets the perfect background for locals who are chasing their dreams.

"They hopefully will believe in being a part of American Idol," said Alexis Hill, the city's Special Events Program Manager.

Hill said they are gearing up for a big crowd at American Idol auditions this weekend. "When we were talking to the producers of American Idol, they said on their bus tour we could expect anywhere from 200 people, is a lower turnout, to anywhere up to a thousand is a higher turnout."

City Plaza will become their stage and Reno will move into the national spotlight. Hill said contestants may arrive as early as 6 a.m. Saturday. So driving in the area could be a challenge.

"We are closing First Street between Virginia and Center," said Hill. "So I recommend that if people want to park downtown they avoid First Street."

Hill said the sidewalks could be packed too. "Expect a lot of people traffic. It is Artown, as you know. So there's already going to be people walking about checking out what's going on in Artown and then they'll be able to see this and see the bus, take pictures in front of the bus, hopefully get to see the believe sign."

Hill believes for some of our locals, the intersection of Virginia and First Streets is where their reality will meet their dreams. "We have such great talent in this city and to have that in a national spotlight would be great for the city."

If you'd like to show your stuff, auditions are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m on Saturday. You have to be 15 to 28 years old to try out. You'll need two forms of identification and a signed release form.

Members of the community are encouraged to come out and watch, but no kids younger than 5 are allowed at the event.
