Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Northern Nevadans gathered for the 2013 JDRF Vision Gala at the Downtown Reno Ballroom tonight, April 27, 2013.
The Reno Ballroom was packed with a record number of community members who came out to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and to recognize the Carano Family.
Reno Mayor Bob Cashell attended the Gala and said, "We're honoring one of the greatest families in Northern Nevada."
The Carano's welcomed the JDRF Vision Gala into the Reno Ballroom for the sixth year and have also supported other events including the Walk to Cure Diabetes.
Tony Marini with Hot August Nights says the community support is incredible, "Juvenile diabetes is special to all of us, its touched every single one of us. So to have everybody come together on one night and to be a part of this is truly amazing."
Reno City Council Member, Sharon Zadra says she is so proud of her fellow Nevadans, "I'm excited about the turnout, I think it really speaks to what a caring, involved community we are."
More than 24 million Americans have diabetes, which accounted for an astounding $245 billion in health care costs in the U.S. in 2012, according to the American Diabetes Association. In Nevada alone, the diabetes health care cost last year were $167 million. Those involved with the JDRF want to change that.
