Competitive eater Joey Chestnut sets world record in rib eating contest

SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Joey “Jaws” Chestnut ate 13.76 pounds of ribs in 12 minutes at last night's 8th Annual Nugget World Rib Eating Championship during the 25th Annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.

He beat his previous 2008 record of 9.8 pounds by nearly four pounds, and took home a $2,500 cash grand prize.

Second-place finisher, and number four-ranked eater, Matt “Megatoad” Stonie downed an incredible 11.2 pounds during the competiton.

Newcomer to the Nugget World Rib Eating Championship, Miki Sudo, took down 7.1 pounds of ribs, placing third. Sudo is ranked #7 among competitive eaters.

Fourth place went to Juan “More Bite” Rodriguez, who ate 6.15 pounds. Fifth place went to #22-ranked eater, Steve Hendry, who ate 4.67 pounds of ribs.
