Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com)- Hindsight is 20/20 for Darla Ward, the property manager for Reno Motel in downtown, where fugitive sex offender James Edward Bryant had been renting a room for two months.

“He had a bunch of young boys in his room,” recalls Ward. “I never seen him with anyone older than maybe 20.”
Neighbors called him 'Preacher Man. '

"Every Sunday, he would come over and ask me to go to church and listen to him preach and he would ask us all to go to church,” says Ward.

Ward says Bryant even showed her a preacher's certificate, and she thought he was a godly man who was trying to help wayward young men in the area.

"He would feed them. He would let them stay the night sometimes, which we would have arguments about,” says Ward. “But he would take care of them.”

She says she spoke to numerous young men who were in Bryant’s room.

"They never said anything to me, because I would have done something," Ward explains.

Yesterday, she helped authorities locate Bryant at his new apartment, after he terminated his rent early last week.

He had been living at an apartment complex on 3rd Street for only 10 days before he was arrested. The manager, who did not want to be on camera, painted a very different picture of Bryant, saying "he was a problem" and "a life-long con artist.”

Reflecting on Bryant’s behavior, Ward says, "I feel very cheated. I'm hurt. I'm really hurt that he hurt our whole neighborhood, because everybody loved him. And for him to hurt a child, or anybody like that, is wrong. It's just wrong.

This is a very poorly written story. What does him being a preacher have to do with anything unless he "harmed" the boys. Did he? That "minor detail" was left out. Probably wasn't a good idea to have the boys in his room. If he did something wrong then report it in your article. There are over 751,538 men, women and children (as young as 6, 8 and 10 in some states) required to register and the "crimes" range from urinating in public (indecent exposure), sexting, incest, mooning, exposure, false accusations by a soon-to-be ex-wife, angry girlfriend, or spiteful student, viewing abusive OR suggestive images of anyone18 years old or younger, playing doctor, prostitution, solicitation, Romeo and Juliet consensual sexual dating relationships, rape, endangering the welfare of a child and many others. If you multiply the number on the registry by 2 or 3 family members you can clearly see there are well over 2,500,000 wives, children, moms, aunts, girlfriends, grandmothers and other family members who experience the collateral damage of being harassed, threatened, children beaten, have signs placed in their yards, homes set on fire, vehicles damaged, asked to leave their churches and other organizations, children passed over for educational opportunities, have flyers distributed around their neighborhood, wives lose their jobs when someone learns they are married to a registrant....all these things occur when these people try to hold their family together and provide the three things that professionals state are needed for successful re-integration; a job, a place to live and a good support system. If they want to rent to weeklies then they need to do a security back ground check besides a credit check.

I know that motel and I know that apt. bldg. I had been thinking about moving into that apt. bldg. EVERYONE that rents weekly should have a system by now. It's the 21st Century the internet is cheap - in fact a LOT of these "weeklies" advertise free wi fi. I worked at a weekly and I ran the wi fi network. I put a filter on the network so nasty things couldn't be downloaded. I was having to deal with this constantly. But I was a responsible party. DON'T HARBOR SEX OFFENDERS RENO MOTELS.
