Cyclist involved in last week's Fernley crash dies

FERNLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Fernley resident involved in a crash with a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle in Fernley last Monday passed away at Renown Regional Medical Center Aug. 14.

Nevada Highway Patrol says, a week ago, 57-year-old David Bertroch was pedaling his bike west on Main Street just west of the round-about when he collided with a silver 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up driven by 52-year-old Carson Shockley of Fernley. Bertroch, who was not wearing a safety helmet, sustained serious injuries in the incident and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center while Shockley escaped injury. He passed away at the hospital last Wednesday at approximately 12:35 pm.

Trooper Dave Gibson is still investigating this crash. Witnesses or anyone with additional information should contact him at the NHP Fernley substation at (775) 575-5518 or dgibson@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-130801044.

Even driving a car is sometimes a bit dangerous around this area. So many people don't use turn signals and go faster (or slower) than the posted speed limit. Of course, you also have the added "texting while driving" crowd also.
