DEVELOPING: Human remains found near Spooner Summit

SPOONER SUMMIT, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- The human remains found near Spooner Summit Monday were located approximately 300 yards to the north of Hwy 50, between the Tahoe Rim trail and Kings Canyon Road, in a remote wooded area.

Inmate work crews clearing brush in the area located the remains and contacted law enforcement.

Identification of the decedent is unknown at this time. The investigation continues

SPOONER SUMMIT, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Human remains have been found near Highway 50, just north of Spooner Summit.

According to Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini, a prison conservation crew found the body approximately 1,000 feet from the Carson County line. The body is reportedly mostly bones, and appears to have been there for months or years.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, and its unclear if a crime was committed. Crews will be on scene investigating all night.
