CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Defense attorneys plan to present evidence questioning the character of Nevada's chief insurance examiner, who was killed April 2 at his Carson City apartment.

Defense lawyer Dennis Widdis says 62-year-old William McCune "seems to have had a darker side than what was previously assumed."

He made the comments during a court hearing Friday for the four people charged with killing him and dumping his body in the Carson River in Carson City.

The Nevada Appeal reports  Justice of the Peace John Tatro granted Widdis permission to seek court records from Louisiana that he said detailed McCune's sex offenses there.

Attorney John Springgate asked Tatro to have sheriff's investigators look into McCune's computer system, saying it contained child pornography.

A preliminary hearing is set to begin Oct. 8 to determine whether there's sufficient evidence to try the four defendants for murder.

Charged in McCune's murder are 20-year-old Makyla Blackmore, 20-year-old Anthony Elliott, 22-year-old Raul Garcia and 23-year-old Michael Evans.

As Tatro is good for, he wants to discredit the victim and put them on trial. Dark Side or whatever side? How does that justify MURDERING SOMEONE and dumping their body down by the river? Don't tell me, let me guess, these 4 killers are going to claim self defense? Tatro is very good and ignoring the truth and victimizing the victim. He will not allow the truth to be used to prove perjury in his court room. Been there done that, have the court paperwork to prove it. Since I live in CC, I better not be on that jury Tatro. You'll be the one on trial. Tatro isn't even qualified to set on a park bench, let allow a judicial one.

Judge John Tatro is the worst "judge" in Nevada. This fool has no law degree and makes stuff up on the bench. He has to take a breathalyzer and has several ethics complaints against him. Just Google his name and read the news on this idiot.

Why bother Tatro won't let them use it in court. Not if it proves someone might be innocent. Tatro has a bad habit of only letting evidence he wants to use to WRONGLY judge someone. This fool needs to be removed ASAP!
