RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Out with the old, in with the new. That's the theme for a new development project by Virginia Lake in Reno. But the demolition that will get the ball rolling -- intended to begin today -- is facing delays.
Demolition of the townhouse units known as the Virginia Lake Apartments on Eastshore Drive near Lymberry was intended to start at 1 p.m. Monday; but a contractor with Silverwing Development tells News 4 that it will actually begin Tuesday morning.
News 4 has learned that NV Energy wasn't able to disconnect all of the utilities in time for the 1 p.m. demolition, hence the delay.
Once the old units are demolished, a new development will start; and a state-of-the-art residential development -- called Edgewater at Virginia Lake -- consisting of 288 condos and apartments will arise in its place.
According to J. Witt with Silverwing Development, it's more than a new development -- it's a sign of economic recovery.
The first units are expected to be available for occupancy in February of 2015.
