SAN DIMAS, Calif. (AP) — A driver has died after a truck tire smashed into his windshield on a Southern California freeway.

The California Highway Patrol says 62-year-old David A. Ballejos of San Bernardino died at the scene Thursday on Interstate 210.

A CHP report says Ballejos was driving a Toyota Camry on the eastbound freeway in San Dimas around 5:30 a.m. when a rear tire came off a Ford Ranger pickup going the other way.

The tire bounced across lanes and smashed into the Camry's hood and windshield. Ballejos received major head and face injuries.

The Camry veered to the freeway shoulder, struck the soundwall and a call box, crossed an onramp and struck a second soundwall before stopping.

Six other cars hit the loose tire but there were no other injuries.

better U should report the Spammers on this site. I used "quotation marks" and may have been a little wounded by retired51's "who cares" retort, he is uneducated and a flamethrower. U misinterpreted my Brief Post, & higher moral ground is: a gated community overlooking a dry, dead golf course...Nv4, more lurid stuff- I can't wait until my next Rate Hike

I regret U misinterptreted my Comment (see explanation herein). U R over=reacting- I don't need your lecture-ing. I was wondering Y Nv4 posts so many lurid, non-local stories, and was pointing out this tire/fatality has happened here also. I pass by the spot and often recall this tragedy, much like the one when a loose couch killed a young woman on 395. my Brief Post was because when i observed that DRI is not a "company", retired51 replied "who cares?" I don't usually use this space to attack/address others or to strictly "blog", rather to interact with community concerns as reported by inept local edia.

Kramer, If your insensitive question is an attempt to lure someone into a serious response I believe I will disappoint you with mine. What I mean is this, you and those like you whom sit behind the safety of your computer screen and pop off ridiculous thoughts like the one below do not accurately portray your true intention, in my opinion. I mean if you have some type of frustration that you need to flush out and rectify maybe just be honest by asking for someone to argue with rather than disrespecting an innocent gentleman who died in a horrible accident just so that you can engage your personal issues. That said, I will be your Huckleberry and answer your question with a somewhat pedestrian but genuine answer...who cares you ask? I am sure his family, friends, and acquaintances care quite a bit that he has lost his life. In fact, while I did not know the gentleman at all, I in fact do care! Furthermore, I care so much that I have taken the time to respond to your ridiculousness and shock value. So, without further waste of my time I will leave it at that but I would encourage you that in the future you might want to treat others with a little more humility and concern! Something of which I am sure indeed does reside within you but for some unknown reason was pushed aside. And that for what its worth, is really sad if you ask me.
