VERDI, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- According to the Truckee Meadows Fire Department, a forest fire broke out near I-80 westbound near Verdi Thursday afternoon.

The fire has burned about a quarter of an acre and the Nevada Division of Forestry has responded; the fire appears to have started underneath some power lines.

Two brush engines initially responded and additional resources were called, including a helicopter. The terrain was reported as being very steep, but the fire's progress was stopped and crews are in the mop up stage.

No structures were threatened and the fire will be completely out in about 2 hours.

Liberty Utilities says Floriston Canyon residents are without power because of the blaze, but since the fire close to being extinguished, they hope to reinstate power soon.
