RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A disturbing Facebook post has been circulating on the internet, bringing national attention to a local police department.

The comment appears to be from a future Washoe County deputy making threats to followers of a website aimed at holding law enforcement accountable. The post in question is full of expletives and threats of mass murder, and shows a figure of authority abusing his power.

Many are concerned that a person like this would be an officer of the law. We tracked down the Reno man whose face is on that post, and he says his Facebook page was hacked.

"That's absurd," said Darren Redding. "If it really was me, which it isn't. But if it were, I wouldn't tell a whole bunch of people where I live after insulting them like that and making threats like that. That would just be dumb."

The post says Redding was set to start training with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department, but Redding says he never even applied or had the intention to be in law enforcement. The Sheriff's Office also has no record of Redding.

"We have no employee here by that name, and that includes deputy recruits," said Washoe County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Bob Harmon. "This is not the kind of behavior that is characteristic of the Washoe County Sheriffs Office, nor will it be tolerated. It's a deplorable hoax."

The Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate who made that post and Redding says he has received numerous death threats online, some even posting his home address.

Screw that! He wrote that nonsense so let him take his medicine! Nevertheless, always remember to NEVER EVER EVER TRUST NOR SPEAK TO ANY COP.............EVER! There's no such thing as a " good cop ". Any and every cop will lie on u to cover themselves AND they will lie to protect other cops.

He did it. THere is no reason for a hacker to target him. He is just trying to save face. He never says that he thought what was said was wrong. That it is wrong to brag about cops beating in people's faces. That it is wrong to threaten people just because they believe differently than him. He did it and when the cops came to HIS house he changed his story.

Hey Speed, by that logic, how about you PROVE to me News4 HASN'T been hacked? I mean, it's all about proof, right? ...see where your logic fails?

bull. if you read everything he was posting on copblock, both before and after this came out you wouldn't believe that. he's lying. do not let this person join any law enforcement. if he does people will be watching his every move and those screenshots will be given to anybody he arrests. every case his name is one will be suspect. good luck.

Where is the tangible proof that this was a hoax? Were IP addresses checked, or is your report based solely on Redding's words? Subpar article due to lack of concrete evidence, imo. I'm still going to pursue any and all Legal recourse I have against Redding for threataning my life and the lives of 86,000 others. Redding is a domestic terrorist nin my eyes, til he can PROVE otherwise.

Benjamin-if you're so positive it ISN'T a hoax-bring in your proof;otherwise you're no better than whoever started this hoax. This is ALL about PROOF. And if the proof shows it's a hoax, your comments make you as guilty of messing up his life as the creator of the hoax. Or maybe that was YOU. The proof will tell.

serpico not only do you know zilch about Facebook's policies re investigating its users' posts in response to public inquiry but you're also referring to this Darren Redding character as "Jared" for some reason ... Suggest you slow your roll and get your facts in order before you start flappin' your pie-hole bud. We'll be waiting. NEILSY P OUT

If this is a hoax then Facebook should be more than accomodating in providing your media outlet with proof of the hack that victimized Jared Redding and should be able to clear all this up in short order. We'll be waiting. Feel free to actually do some journalism.

It's not a hoax. This Darren Redding character from whose page these threats have come has said several things, his friends did it, he was hacked, it was a hoax. His life needs to be destroyed like the thousands of people whose lives the corrupt WCSO have destroyed. Cops are liars and nothing they say should ever be believed.
