CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The jury in the Desiree Bragg murder trial found Leonardo Cardoza guilty of murder in the first degree on Thursday. Reports say Cardoza followed Bragg and her fiancee to her mother's house in January 2013, and slammed his van into her.

Now that the trial is over, pending possible appeals, it is a relief to Bragg's mother, Wrenetta Nadon. She praised God for allowing the jury to see the truth. "I think it gives us closure. I find it kind of ironic that people say, you know, 'oh, she can rest in peace now,' because she has been at peace the entire time. You know she's in a better place."

Still, Nadon said her family was not always positive with how the trial would end. "We were actually kind of stunned that we got murder in the first degree. We wanted that, didn't know that we would get that."

Although Nadon said she is extremely thankful for the outcome, she has sympathy for Cardoza's family. "It's difficult because, you know, that his is family is suffering, too and so while we are joyful, we also bear in mind that they are suffering."

Cardoza faces a potential sentence of life in prison, without the possibility of parole. His sentencing is scheduled for April 21, and Nadon hopes Cardoza will get the maximum sentence.

Bragg's son is now 18 months old and is being raised by her family. You can donate to his trust fund at the Greater Nevada Credit Union, by asking for the "Desiree Bragg Trust Fund".
