TAHOE CITY, Calif. (KRNY & MyNews4.com) – A fire destroyed two homes in Granlibakken in Tahoe City leaving a father of five with minor injuries.

According to the Lake Tahoe News, Gabrielle Cuevas was burned on his hands and suffered smoke inhalation after trying to help his kids escape from their home on December 30. North Tahoe Fire Protection District crews were on scene late Monday afternoon to determine the cause of the blaze. The family lost everything including just opened Christmas gifts.

Dave Zaski from North Tahoe Fire Protection tells News 4 the fathers actions directly saved his children, along with the fact the family had a working smoke detector.
