RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Former Deputy District Attorney Roger Whomes, 58, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday night.

According to the Reno Police Department, officers were summoned to the 1900-block of Royal Drive at about 8:45 p.m. for a report of a male subject who appeared deceased in a residential driveway. He was transported to Renown Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Whomes was a Washoe County Deputy District Attorney for 18 years and also worked in the Public Defender's office. He ran for District Attorney in 2010 against his former boss Dick Gammick.

Whomes lived in Winnemucca for a few years, but had recently returned to Reno.

The Reno Police Department is continuing to investigate, but they say no foul play is suspected.
