ELKO, NEV. (KRNV & MyNews4.com)--Two construction workers have died after being hit by a car in a work area on Interstate 80. Two other workers were injured.

The accident happened around 1pm Tuesday afternoon on I-80 eastbound near mile marker 262. Mile marker 262 is half way between Battle Mountain and Elko.

Nevada Highway Patrol have identified the driver has Candance Gittins, age 69, from Fort Bragg, California. Troopers say Gittins was driving a Honda passenger car. They say she was driving in the fast lane, and failed to slow down for cars that were stopped or slowed down in the other lane. They say she swerved to the right, avoiding an accident with the cars. At that time, Troopers say she struck four pedestrian construction workers. She was not hurt and was wearing her seatbelt. Her passenger, Dallas Gittins was not injured and was also wearing his seatbelt.

One pedestrian worker identified as Vicki Stenovich, age 53, from Spring Creek, Nevada died at the scene.

The second pedestrian worker, identified as Arthur Lucero, age 47, from Gardnerville was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, and later passed away.

The third pedestrian worker has been identified as Mario Ramos, age 50, from Reno. He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno and is in stable condition.

The fourth pedestrian worker, identified as Karen Martin, age 50, from Battle Mountain was taken to Battle Mountain Hospital with minor injuries.

All four pedestrian workers were employed by A-Core.

The deadly accident is still under investigation.

Devastated? Funeral was devastating. Nicest , Arthur Lucero was the nicest .Marshal1 you want to talk empathy? Try going and viewing your brothers body because a driver wouldn't slow down... All the other drivers did. The ones that aren't devastated for what they did. Thanks a lot for, your kind, empathetic words to the murdered.

Imagine that you are really stupid for believing it has to do with drivers and not the truth...... She killed 2 people and injured 2 more. My best friend is dead because she was the nicest California driver and now you say its not murder. Look for the signs, slow down when you are in construction zones. Shes not the victim , she will fully kept going passing cars she swerved to avoid and then hit a work truck and finally stopped. Happy Birthday Art... Love Ya

I really don't understand how you people are bickering over who's better drivers and who's drivers are stupid. The point is My best friend, my brother is dead because 100s upon 100s of feet worth of cones and signs were missed and four road workers were hit by a loaded weapon and still didn't stop

Marshal1,Kramer; Regardless of how nice a person she is,she was still 100% wrong for not paying enough attention to her driving and slowing down when going into a Construction area with workers on the road. It's not like there wasn't enough signage and warnings of road construction. Granted,California has more "traffic",referring to the 5 MPH parking lots during "rush" hour, but your comment of California drivers being "dumbfounded by the aggressive and inattentive ways of NVada (Where is NVada? Are you referring to NEVADA?)drivers" is off a bit. I've encountered good and bad drivers from many different States, but Nevada drivers are really no better or worse than other States as a group. Personally,I'M amazed at how many Californians didn't learn in Drivers Ed. that the highways get slick when it snows, and they CAN'T safely drive 75mph on snow-pack. Northern Nevada Body Shops and Towing Companies just LOVE California drivers in the Winter. BTW-I noticed, while I lived in Boise Idaho, that since the California invasion of Idaho, the Idaho drivers tend to drive just like California drivers, but with slower reflexes.
