RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Utah company's cancellation of an annual fun run featuring a muddy, foamy obstacle course has left participants out of money in Nevada, Oregon and other states.

Registered runners for the 5K Foam Fest set for Aug. 2 in Reno received an email Thursday from Spanish Fork, Utah-based Round House Racing saying it was going out of business and the event was canceled. Participants also aren't being offered refunds.

Similar emails went out earlier in the week to runners signed up for the July 26 event in Portland, Oregon.

Stephanie Rutherford, who registered for the Reno run, and Shellie Brandt, who signed up for the Portland run, say it was wrong for the company to take between $50 and $100 from people and then cancel the events.

The company didn't return phone calls.

It was quite a blow to find out what we have been training and preparing for was just cancelled, with a vague email and instructions to wait for another email from a different events company. The other events company doesn't have anything that is coming to our area so it looked as if we were outta luck if we didn't sign up for the Super hero run by Monday at 5 which I did not. I do wanna give a thumbs up to Groupon, anyone who purchased their tickets on Groupon, they sent me a full refund for our tickets. It just happened today so keep an eye on your emails.
