RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A local business that caters to families and their young children is offering the community quite a deal to help a family facing a rare battle.
A little lady, as her parents call her, is battling a rare kidney disease called FSGS. When Gymboree Playtime & Music owner, Sherii Paparich-Hess learned about the Baker’s situation, she wanted to do something to help.
"So I know the Bakers, because they started attending the Gymboree program with their daughter Eloise and I noticed they hadn’t been in class for a few weeks," said Paparich-Hess.
Soon after, Paparich-Hess learned that 18-month-old Eloise Baker was battling a rare kidney disease called FSGS. Due to her disease, Eloise could no longer play with other children.
"She’s gone through quite a bit, definitely and we’ve gone through a pretty long road to get where we are," said Eloise’s dad Nick Baker.
Since birth, Eloise has had three different surgeries, including a kidney biopsy. Now, her parents are anxiously waiting for Eloise to be strong enough for a kidney transplant. "She’s definitely the feistiest person I’ve ever known, she’s got a little bit of that from her mom," said Nick.
It will not be the only thing she gains from her mother. "She’s got this tiny little body and she’s going to get this really big kidney," said Eloise's mom Kristen Baker. "I’m not worried about me at all, I’m more concerned about her."
While they wait for Eloise to gain weight and strength before the transplant, Nick is working and pursuing his master’s degree, while Kristen travels with her daughter to Sacramento multiple times per month to see doctors at UC Davis.
Eloise’s kidney disease is so rare, there are no specialists in northern Nevada, and the medical bills are piling up. So, Paparich-Hess and the Gymboree family are stepping up. "So literally an unlimited Gymboree experience for two weeks, they can come 6 days a week if they want for a $20 donation."
Every single dollar goes toward Eloise’s medical fund and her journey back to being a healthy toddler.
