Reno, NV-- The U-S Postal Service is providing a timely reminder. If you have missing packages or other gift items, don't assume they are "lost in the mail." You could be a victim of mail theft and not even know it.
Postal Inspector Vicki Lenard said, "Definitely file a complaint and the easiest way to do that is online." She adds, "If you go to the USPS.com website, there is a box on the bottom right hand corner which is a link to the Postal Inspectors' website. A Postal Inspector reviews every single one of those complaints that are filed online." She also recommended you contact your local law enforcement agency.
Lenard said the more complaints they receive, the easier it is for Postal Inspectors to investigate. She said, "The more information we receive, the better we are able to do our jobs." She said they work together with local law enforcement agencies to identify patterns and areas where thieves are targeting mail.
Lenard said, "If anyone knows anything about these types of incidents, it's important for them to report it to us and it is also important for people to take preventative steps such as checking your mail every day because the longer the mail sits in the mail box, the more opportunity there is for people to steal the mail.
