RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- In what some say is an unusual move, Washoe County Judge Brent Adams handed down a new sentence Wednesday in the case against a Reno man who plead guilty to sexual abuse of a minor.

On March 12th, 69-year-old Isaac Onsurez was sentenced 10 years to life in prison for 'lewdness with a minor under the age of 14.' The victim was the defendant's step-granddaughter who revealed the sexual abuse 12 years after it happened, when she was about six years old.

Wednesday morning Judge Adams gave Onsurez a sentence of one year in Washoe County Jail followed by five years of probation.

In court Judge Adams blamed the recording of Onsurez's first sentencing on a clerical error, stating the signed copy of the original sentencing should have never been filed.

Judge Adams relayed to the court that Onsurez can be considered a low-risk for offending again, according to a doctor's observations.

In a document given to News 4 by the Washoe District Attorney's Office, the victim estimated the sexual acts happened more than 100 times. In a conversation between Onsurez and a detective, taken from district attorney paperwork, Onsurez says, "I'm not going to blame her you know completely but she was a curiosity child that wanted sex." In another response to the detective's question, Onsurez says, "Yeah, she wanted it."

After hearing the sentencing, Washoe County Deputy Attorney Shannon Bryant says he was surprised and disappointed.

The father of the victim, Laurence, who wishes to keep his last name anonymous, says he hopes this does not discourage victims from stepping forward and seeking justice. He shared his disappointment by saying "The word that fits best is devastating."

They say he is a "low risk" to re-offend. REALLY?? He said "I'm not going to blame her you know completely but she was a curiosity child that wanted sex," AND "Yeah, she wanted it." This guy is sick and should be in prison - there is no way he has no other victims. Maybe the judge sympathized with him a bit too much for PERSONAL reasons. Or someone held something over his head.

Its a good thing that this Judge is retiring, seeing as he has lost all reason of judgement, and does not belong on the bench. This is SICK and DISGUSTING. JUSTICE????ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

It turns out that Judge Adams can't be voted out of office, since he hasn't filed to run in the 2014 election. He plans to retire. So it appears that there is no legal way to convince him that he was WRONG! So he gets to retire and the perp gets off.

Sounds like this Judge Brent Adams sympathises with and supports child molesters if he is resentencing to a lighter sentence and saying there was a clerical error in that the original sentence never should have been registered. Something is Totally Sick and Twisted here and the Judge needs to be investigated.

I think we'll build a halfway house for sex offenders next to the judges granddaughters house... Maybe he'll provide appropriate sentence then.

It sounds like Judge Jennifer Elliot in Las Vegas and Judge Brent Adams in Reno are in competition to see who can render the worst possible decision. To give Onsurez a reduced sentence because "a doctor" said he probably wouldn't do it again is just (expletive deleted) wrong. Why did the judge give him such a light sentence? Are they kindred souls? Remember Judge Adams at election time.
