RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- School officials were on high alert on Thursday after reports that an elementary school student brought a B.B. gun to school.

Washoe County School District Police say a 6-year-old boy brought an inoperable B.B. gun to Peavine Elementary School Wednesday. The weapon was not used in a threatening manner, but police say the kindergarten student did make a verbal threat to another child.

School police said the boy brought the weapon to school with other toys and are still investigating where he got it. "That's still part of the investigation," said Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras. "It appears it came from the home, it was an inoperable B.B. gun pistol, but that's still part of the investigation."

There's no word on whether the school district will discipline the boy, but no criminal charges will be filed.
